Description

The house features three beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with large, T&G cedar closets with built-in shelving, new doors and fixtures, tasteful lighting, attractive seating, and comfy loop carpets. With bedding for six, two of the bedrooms feature queen beds with chenille comforters and pillow shams, while the a third has a new full-size futon. Each queen bedroom comes with the high thread count bedding that the Vacation Rental Authority is famous for and will feature new A/C (coming in June 2015). The photos in the two larger rooms are of Lake Coeur d’Alene and Lake Pend Oreille. The Giclée print (coming in June 2015) is of Priest Lake.

Each room in the house features an attractive assortment of furniture, much of which was professionally restored, wall art much of which showcases the beautiful of North Idaho, and handmade items crafted by artisans from the Inland Northwest. The biggest lakes of North Idaho are prominently featured.

The dining room features restored hardwood floors, a custom basement hatch, attic access (sorry, to be locked), a feature wall, a beautiful solid oak dining table (with elegant seating for six), a gorgeous rosewood wine cabinet, and large mahogany door. The room also has two pass-through windows, one to the kitchen and one to the Great Room. The prints are of the old Panhandle granary and train station in Sandpoint. the feature wall is the clapboard exterior of the old house together with a custom built vertical grain cedar panel. We hope the elegant charm enhances your in-house dining experience.

The Great Room was lovingly restored in 2013 after discovering the hardwood floors. We decorated the room with period pieces that matched the age of the house. The Art Deco Secretary, Chicago Administrator’s desk and rainfall buffet, and wrought iron lamp were all restored in 2015. The pastel above the desk depicting the Hudson River Valley was done by William Henry Chandler, America’s foremost pastel artist around the turn of the century. Other art includes photos of Schweitzer Mountain, Lake Pend Oreille, and a gorgeous tulip (a family favorite).

The Living room features a beautiful solid oak sofa with quarter-sawn oak arm rests and a matching coffee table. The photos are of Lake Pend Oreille, including the gorgeous photo on metal by Foster Cline. The sepia print (by end of May 2015) is of Spokane Indians taken from the photo (c. 1910) of Edward Curtis, whose notes indicate the photo was taken at the portion of the Spokane River with Lake Coeur d’Alene in the background. The birch boxes in the Living Room and Great Room are by local artist Kathy Gale and are of Dalton Gardens (snow scene) and Fernan Lake. The coat rack is walnut and was made form a tree that was felled in Coeur d’Alene. Finally the gorgeous photo above the sofa is of Lake Pend Oreille.

The comfortable and modern bathroom was completely rebuilt in 2013. It features a new soaking tub (extra deep) and a shower with a curved rod. The door and fixtures are new, including the Champion IV toilet. The fan exhausts to the exterior.

The kitchen was restored to its 1930s vintage glory, with hard rock maple cabinetry, a Kohler porcelain/cast iron sink with forged brass faucet with spray, and a Baker’s rack. We have added a number of modern touches: Kohler garbage disposal, new GE dishwasher, new hand-scraped style Pergo flooring, all new appliances and utensils including microwave, extra kettle, blender, espresso machine, coffee maker, stainless pots and pans, Farberware knives, Mikasa dinnerware and Reid & Barton flatware. To top it off, we have hung a beautifully framed print of a Cutthroat trout, the true native trout to both Lake Coeur d’Alene and Lake Pend Oreille. By adding a pass-through to the dining room, we hope the kitchen will offer modern conveniences beyond its modest size.

For your enjoyment, we have provided a new Samsung 32” Smart TV, with cable internet access through Time Warner Cable and a new Wireless N router. Just bring your Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu passwords! In addition, we have stocked the house with 20+ games. Finally, we have an nice assortment of novels (by end of May 2015) that we hope will grow with our guests. So whether you wish to unwind with your laptop, in front of the TV, in front of a good book, or with family-friendly games, we want you to consider house as an ideal complement to your enjoyment of Coeur d’Alene and the beautiful lakes of North Idaho.
